Why would someone who tortured save !!????

Because its a sadistic way to cause mental breakdown to torture victim. Its upgraded abuse with which Merkel, London, White House were extremely acquanitained with - they lectured Moscow/Warsaw on how to murder / kill in addition to physical torture is why. Its why That much about hundred of exit scenarios...how saving 'private Ryan" worked in this case and on behalf of whom.
