Readers had a number of royal couples to choose from.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave viewers insight into their relationship in their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, from their first date, engagement story and royal wedding. It opened up a whole new debate about the pair, who left the Firm in 2020 for new lives in the US. While the story was perhaps the most personal of all the royal couples that we have seen, a new poll of Express.co.uk readers has found Prince William and Kate to be the most popular royal couple.

Harry and Meghan were introduced through mutual friends and after an initial two dates in London, their romance was long-distance. The couple discussed the early days of their relationship in the first episode of the six-part series with Meghan describing it as “relaxed and easy”. The couple announced that they were engaged in November 2017, and wed on May 19, 2018. 

Speaking about the relationship, Harry said: “I think for so many people in the family, especially the men, there could be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould as opposed to someone you are destined to be with.”

His brother William met Kate Middleton in 2001, while they were both at the University of St Andrews. In November 2010 the couple announced their engagement to the public and wed on April 29 at Westminster Abbey, watched by an estimated global audience of three billion people.

The pair have since welcomed three children, Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four, and now reside in Windsor. As senior royals, the couple regularly represents the Firm at events and conduct public engagements and charitable work.

In a poll that ran from 7am on Monday, December 19, to 4.30pm on Thursday, December 22, Express.co.uk asked readers: “Who is your favourite royal couple?”

Overall, 3,019 readers responded, with the most popular couple, gaining 66 percent (1,987 people) of votes cast being William and Kate.

King Charles III and his Queen Consort Camilla came in second, followed by Harry and Meghan, each gaining the support of nine percent with 286 and 271 votes respectively.

Meanwhile, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, came in fourth with seven percent of the vote (218 people). The couple were introduced through mutual friends and married in 1999.
