Indian, Chinese troops clashed at Arunachal LAC on December 9, suffered injuries

Indian and Chinese troops clashed along the LAC in the Tawang Sector in Arunachal Pradesh on December 9.

By Abhishek Bhalla , Manjeet Negi: Indian and Chinese troops clashed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Tawang Sector in Arunachal Pradesh on December 9. Soldiers from both sides were injured in the clash.

On December 9, the Chinese troops clashed with the Indian soldiers in Yangste area near Tawang sector, as per defense sources. The face-off led to minor injuries to a few personnel from both sides. At least Indian six soldiers were injured in the clash and were airlifted to Guwahati for treatment.

More than 300 Chinese soldiers had attempted to get access to the top of 17,000-ft peak and were thwarted by Indian Army jawans, sources said. The area is now under snow. The Chinese troops wanted to uproot an Indian post, but the attempt was successfully thwarted by the Indian side.

Both sides immediately disengaged from the area.

"As a follow up to the incident, our Commander in the area held a Flag Meeting with his (Chinese) counterpart to discuss the issue in accordance with structured mechanisms to restore peace and tranquillity," the source said.

Notably, the Indian troops had intercepted Chinese soldiers in the same region in October last year. Around 200 People's Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers were intercepted close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh in 2021.

Reacting to the reports of clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Tawang, the Congress demanded a stern action from the Centre.

"There is news of a clash between the soldiers of India and China in Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh. The time has come for the government to leave its wavering attitude and explain to China in a stern tone that its act will not be tolerated," the Congress said.

Meanwhile, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi questioned why the government did not inform the Parliament about the clash in Arunachal Pradesh.

Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted, “The reports coming from Arunachal Pradesh are worrying and alarming. A major clash took place between Indian and Chinese soldiers and the government has kept the country in the dark for days. Why was the Parliament not informed, when it is in session?”
