US should charge one top NATO defense GDP fee on regular basses and demand autonomous military defense bases in size of 1% of Thailand. Then I would talk weapons sale and even such under extremely restricted surveillance circumstances with always US military personnel eyeing equipment if(it shouldn't be till national awareness matches the one in Japan/S. Korea) top equipment sold. Defense of Thailand's national sovereignty in the case of war is a tough task.
I have seen military installation and everything else on Thailand, but was not impressed in absolutely any way. Americans acting as if the profit from within providing free top defense WITHOUT ABSOLUTELY ANY OWNERSHIP IN ANYTHING and Thais crying me about my loosing my share of money(while heavily collecting from tourism) if deciding to boost American autonomy in area. Absolutely bizarre insane budget hole due to political incompetence on both sides. Lousy diplomacy with American diplomats always willing to go extra mile to suffocate pro American interests even more - displaying fear/insecurity in the face of the enemy which is eager to take over entire region and has daily schizo blasts with which is terrorising entire Asia while actively engaging in warfare in other parts of the world.
State defense is not a cheap thing. Numerous Americans endup homeless to pay for one. Its not purchased through internet nor can be purchased - its takes a effort and a will to build and maintain one - for if there is no will/necessity for one, it better not be present anywhere.
I am not talking about rent(not lease) as far as military bases, but absolute ownership with Thai access to one - where Thai forces would also train with American forces in a NATO spirit which hopefully would keep Thailand self aware - alive enough to keep its independence. Japan and Korea both militarily contribute(engage in military projects - develop weaponry) to NATO and so should also be with Thailand. No way would I offer any assistance to anyone in region from Thai bases unless just as Thailand compensate on regular bases. You covered when you pay bills ONLY.
Thai airports as well as military locations should cover for additional strategic deployments in case of needs where US military should practice with professional Thai military on regular bases. Make a use of that Russo Chinese tourism/trade not a dependence on one.
Trump who talk a whole a lot about budget increase for military defense didn't change financing landscape of military budget from abroad even a little bit...generalised a lot at rallies did shit in reality - EVERYTHING ONE LEARNED ABOUT WHAT WENT ON, HOWEVER, WAS THROUGH THIS VERY CASE..
