US Secretary: 'The US is working to ensure Israel has everything it needs'




Iran issued a new chilling threat suggesting the war between Israel and Hamas could escalate and involve a wider region.

The theocratic state warned Tel Aviv on Thursday it will be held responsible for the consequences of "a response from the rest of the axis", to be expected if attacks on Palestinians continue.


Speaking from Beirut during an official visit, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said: "Some Western officials have questioned if there is an intention to open a new front against the Zionist entity. Of course, in light of the continuation of these circumstances that are war crimes.

"The continuation of war crimes against Palestine and Gaza will receive a response from the rest of the axis. And naturally, the Zionist entity and its supporters will be responsible for the consequences of that."

The Iranian official described as "war crimes" the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza as well as the siege of the strip being carried out by Israel.

With "axis of resistance", a term coined by Iran, Mr Amir-Abdollahian referred to a number of forces affiliated with Tehran - including the Hezbollah terror group, Syria and Hamas.

Since Hamas militants carried out their horrific attacks on the weekend, more than 1,300 Israelis have been killed and some 150 are feared to have been abducted. The retaliatory air strikes launched by Tel Aviv have killed more than 1,500 Palestinians and wounded more than 6,000.
